Il y a quelques années, l'arrivée des forums d'origami (EN ou FR) ainsi que des sites tels que Flickr ont permis non seulement aux créateurs de montrer leurs modèles, mais aussi de recevoir de nombreuses critiques et éloges des autres plieurs.

Il y a toujours d'innombrables personnes qui sont en effet prêtes à vous conseiller, vous corriger, voir vous montrer ce qui va de travers et vous dire ce qu'il faudrait faire...

Mais qui vous pousse à vous démarquer ?

What is Creativity?

It could be that it is the art of rearranging diverse elements into a new order to create a new whole.
That is why it is so important to know the elementary building blocks of your art!

If you are unaware of what existed and has worked in the past, you won’t be able to build on top of them! The chef Ferran Adria therefore mastered the whole art of classical cuisine, before forgetting everything in order to reinvent a new cuisine (becoming a practitioner of molecular grastronomy). This in turn has caused his establishment to be designated, after 10 years, the “best restaurant in the world”!

On the other hand, the failure of Palm in the smartphone business is due to the simple fact that its CEO had never used an iPhone and therefore didn’t understand the immense gains that Apple had made with the public.

In other words, if you really want to be creative in origami, to really bring something new to it, you will need to master the full collection of techniques in origami and to understand their essence.

If you are addicted to boxpleating or only swear by the works of Kamiya, Lang, or Brian Chan, it is time to explore other areas, for example tessellations, the crumpling technique of Floderer, or modular origami. Otherwise, you will be condemned to be Kamiya-like, of which you will clearly have no interest in.

If you are reticent, then all the better: that means that you will really learn something new.

For example, tessellations will teach you the delicate work that light and shadows perform to change the texture of the paper; Floderer’s crumpling technique will usher you into the amazing world of ordered chaos, where the paper’s tension defines the structure of the model; the modular approach will teach you all the types of locks, which are particularly useful for locking your models.

If you are a fan of models with 200 steps, then discover the surprising richness and genius of the simple models by Nick Robinson or Javier Caboblanco (and you will discover that it is a lot harder to create a simple model than a complex one).

If you are addicted to boxes and Chinese modular units, discover the animals of Roman Diaz, overwhelming with ingenuity.

In short, venture into areas that you haven’t mastered, even those you’re put off by. Integrate them, understand them, and break them down into multiple elementary units. Once you have done that, you will be able to bring everything together to create something novel. You will be able to, finally, bring something new to the art of origami.

Peut-être est-ce l'art de remonter des éléments dispersés dans un nouvel ordre pour créer un sens nouveau.

C'est pourquoi il est si important de connaître les briques élémentaires de votre art !

Si vous n'avez pas conscience de ce qui existe et a fonctionné avant, vous ne pourrez pas construire quelque chose par dessus !

Le chef cuisinier Ferran Adria a ainsi maitrisé tout l'Art de la cuisine classique, avant de tout oublier et de réinventer une nouvelle cuisine (il devient un des tenants de la cuisine moléculaire). Il a ainsi permis à son établissement d'être désigné depuis 10 ans « meilleur restaurant au monde » !

A l'inverse, l'échec cuisant de Palm dans les smartphones est simplement dû au fait que son Président n'a jamais utilisé d'iphone et n'a donc pas compris l'immense ouverture qu'a réalisé Apple auprès du public.

En d'autres termes, si vous voulez être réellement créatif en origami, si vous souhaitez vraiment apporter quelque chose de neuf, il vous faut d'abord maîtriser l'ensemble des techniques de l'origami et en comprendre leur essence.

Si vous êtes un accroc du Boxpleating ou que vous ne jurez que par les pliages de Kamiya, Lang ou Brian Chan, il est alors temps d'explorer d'autres domaines comme par exemple, les Tesselations, le froissing de Floderer ou les modulaires. Sinon vous serez condamnés à faire du Kamiya-like, ce qui n'a clairement aucun intérêt !

Si vous êtes réticents, c'est encore mieux : cela veut dire que vous allez vraiment apprendre quelque chose de nouveau.

Par exemple, les Tesselations vous apprendront le travail délicat des ombres et lumières pour changer la texture du papier ; le froissing de Floderer vous fera rentrer dans le monde étonnant du chaos ordonné où la tension du papier définit la construction du modèle ; l'approche modulaire vous donnera, quant à elle, toutes les clés de blocage particulièrement utiles pour locker vos créations.

Si vous êtes fans des pliages à 200 étapes, découvrez la richesse insoupçonnée et le génie des pliages simples de Nick Robinson ou Javier Caboblanco (et vous découvrirez qu'il est bien plus difficile de créer un modèle simple qu'un modèle complexe).

Si vous êtes accroc des boites et des modulaires chinois, découvrez les animaux de Roman Diaz, étourdissants d'ingéniosité.

Bref, allez dans les domaines que vous ne maîtrisez pas, les domaines qui vous rebutent même. Intégrez les, comprenez les, cassez les en de mutiples briques élémentaires. Une fois fait, vous pourrez alors tout remettre ensemble pour créer quelque chose de nouveau. Vous pourrez alors enfin apporter quelque chose de différent à l'Art de l'origami.

Gachepapier understood everything. His rabbit is a good example of the points which are important to include in an origami model to make it remarkable. To make an outstanding model, you must :
- integrate a technical aspect that challenges the curiosity of the folder (How it is possible to obtain such long ears?)
- bring emotion (This tiny rabbit is so cute with his unfortunate face !)
- break the symmetry of the model (Great to turns the head !) and providing an original position.
- have a quality photo managing the lights and shadows (here we perceive the depth of the ears and the head is well highlight from the body).

This simple doodle really could have been quickly forgotten if the ears were not so developed, if the posture of the rabbit had not been so lively and original, if the light was crushing all the details. Gachepapier was able to highlight the qualities of his model that becomes fantastic.

In creation, it is not enough to know technically how to fold something. You must also know how to find and highlight the essence of a model to move it from a classic folding to remarkable folding !

Son lapin est un bel exemple des points qu'il est important d'inclure dans un modèle pour le rendre remarquable. Pour rendre un modèle remarquable, il faut entre autres :

- intégrer un aspect technique qui interpelle la curiosité du plieur (Mais comme fait-il pour obtenir de si longues oreilles ?)
- Il faut amener de l'émotion (il est crognon ce ti lapin avec sa frimousse de malheureux !)

- Il faut casser la symétrie du modèle (bravo le coup de la tête qui se retourne) en apportant si possible une posture originale.
- Il faut une photo de qualité gérant les ombres et lumières (ici on perçoit la profondeur des oreilles et la tête se détache bien du corps).

Ce simple doodle aurait pu être vraiment quelconque et vite oublié si les oreilles n'avaient pas été si bien mises en valeur, si la posture du lapin n'avait pas été si vivante et originale, si la lumière écrasait tous les détails.

Gachepapier a su mettre en valeur les qualités de ce modèle qui devient du coup formidable. En création, Il ne suffit pas de savoir maitriser techniquement un pliage; il faut aussi savoir trouver et mettre en valeur l'essence d'un modèle pour qu'il passe d'un simple pliage à un pliage remarquable.
